Scottish Borders Sustainable Towns Survey

A new survey has been launched to understand the views and priorities of our Scottish Borders residents, as town centres battle to recover from the lockdown. The consultation comes after a new Local Government Information Unit report called for concerted action by national and local governments to prioritise the regeneration of town centres. The expert report further called for “communities to be better engaged, with all voices welcomed and encouraged.

”Launching the survey, Laura Moodie, our South Scotland lead candidate for the Scottish Green Party, commented:“Our town centres need to be greener, healthier, more equitable and inclusive places to live and work.

“Town centres have felt the full force of the economic hardship caused by the pandemic. We need this report to be the catalyst to kick start a Green recovery and rejuvenation of the amazing towns of the Scottish Borders.

“Green MSPs worked hard to ensure Spaces for People funding could enable communities to realise temporary active travel improvements during the pandemic, now we need to look at similar locally-delivered solutions to the wider challenges our towns face.”

Please have your voice heard, complete the survey.

The Scottish Borders Sustainable Towns survey will remain open until the end of March 2021 and results will be published online and shared with councillors and MSPs to help inform planning decisions.
