Ditcher Law: council wins the right to be heard

Scottish Borders Council took the Scottish Government’s approval of the Ditcher Law wind farm near Lauder to the Court of Session. The scheme involves the construction of eight turbines up to 200 metres tall.

The council argued that the developer submitted key studies on the grid connection just five weeks before the deadline, leaving no time for proper assessment, and that ministers approved it anyway. The government has now stopped defending the case, and a joint motion to quash the consent is before the court.

Scottish Borders Greens welcome this. Communities deserve a fair process, with the full impact of turbines, pylons and grid connections assessed together, not piecemeal. Decisions about the Borders landscape should not be rushed through over the heads of the people who live here.
